First Steps Getting Your Website Working

1. Have a Domain Name

Domain names are essential for a website to work. They are the equivalent to a postal address for a house and are what you can write into a web browser to find a website or put on a car or advert if you want people to find you.

We have a page specifically about Domain Names here.

2. Have a Website or .. build your own in WordPress

A website is a collection of machine readable files, text and images. It can be static HTML or more complex with dynamic code and data storage. Many of sites hosted on SiteRunner use WordPress but we host other platforms as well, best to email us.

WordPress is a great way to build a website. It is open source, free to use and runs over 20% of the internet with many educational resources online. We can install WordPress for you for free in seconds.

3. Have a Web Host (us)

The role of the Web Host is to provide a machine, or server, on the internet that is available 24x7 so if anybody wants to visit the website they can.

SiteRunner is a Web Host and we'd love to look after your website for you.

4. Create your site on our system and set it live

Once you have a login to our client app you can hit the "New Site" button, fill in the required information and (if it is a WordPress site) we will setup your site under a temporary development domain where you can access, build and play with it.

Once you are happy your site is ready for prime time you will need to change some DNS settings for your domain that will point it to our servers. Boom, site live.
